I partner with nonprofits, municipalities, and small businesses to develop sustainable programs,
strengthen leadership, and secure the grant funding needed to turn great ideas into real-world impact.
Over a 38-year career, I have researched, written, secured, and managed hundreds of grants resulting in over $40 million in combined grant awards. I am Grants Professional Certified (GPC) and a Grants Professionals Association Approved Trainer and Mentor, and abide strictly to the GPA Code of Ethics. My experience spans both sides of the funding process—from developing and managing grants to reviewing proposals for the Colorado State Historical Fund.
Complementing my grant expertise, I have a comprehensive background in development including co-directing capital campaigns, executing annual appeals, building robust membership programs, and establishing planned giving initiatives.
From 2018–2023, I served as Senior Manager of Grants and Innovation at Silver Key Senior Services, working with leadership on grant strategy, innovative funding, compliance, and management development. I also directed the Veterans Companionship three-year National Pilot program in partnership with AmeriCorps.
Historic preservation has been a significant priority throughout my career. I have worked nationally with numerous national, state, and local organizations to connect preservation with community development, downtown revitalization, and cultural tourism. I have served as Executive Director of Colorado Preservation, Inc. and Maine Preservation, as was Senior Program Director with the Maine Development Foundation/Maine Downtown Center. I am a past president of the Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs and co-author of the City’s Historic Preservation Master Plan, with additional leadership experience in preservation and community development in Colorado and Maine.
These fields may seem different, but the goal is the same: identify what matters to a community, build the capacity to support it, and find the resources to make it last.
Based in Colorado Springs and working nationally, I am also a published author and poet, speaker, trainer, writer, and editor. I hold a B.A. in Public Administration and an M.A. in Urban Planning/Historic Preservation and am a Certified International Tour Manager (CITM.) I also serve on the Board of Directors for local public radio stations Classical KCME and Jazz 93.5. Colorado is home, yet I’m equally comfortable in the high Rockies and along the Maine coast.
